A Starkville man is behind bars facing a felony child abuse charge after allegedly assaulting a 17-year-old female on Sunday.

The Starkville Police Department said in a press release on Monday that 18-year-old Leviticus Bell was arrested after officers responded to Brooksville Garden apartments on Everglade Avenue following a report of an assault.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Bell, who was taken into custody at an apartment complex on Louisville Street sometime after the incident.

SPD says the female victim was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center for evaluation and later released.

As of this article’s publication, Bell was still in the Oktibbeha County Jail with bond set at $20,000.
