Starkville Academy head football coach Chase Nicholson, left, introduces Trey Tyler at Monday’s MAIS championship press conference in Jackson.

JACKSON – There was a little bit of a feeling of déjà vu in the air at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum on Monday morning.

The brisk morning brought a smile to Starkville Academy coach Chase Nicholson’s face because he woke up still able to coach his players on Monday afternoon. While he and his coaches were itching to get out on the practice field later in the day, they had business to take care of first in Jackson.

That’s where Nicholson had his staff and his four team captains – Matt Miller, Trey Tyler, Sam Clark and Ben Brown. It’s four different players from two years prior when the Volunteers were last at the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools’ press conference before state championships, but the feeling felt the same to Nicholson.
