Starkville Academy batter Sam Clark swings at a pitch during Monday's game against Heritage Academy.

Starkville Academy had a difficult task of trying to solve Heritage Academy pitcher Blayze Berry on Monday in game one of the MAIS Class AAA North State championship series.

Berry had been untouchable once before against the Volunteers and once again he proved to be tough to hit.

The District 2-AAA Player of the Year and Mississippi State commitment carved through the SA ineup allowing just two batters to reach with one hit. The top four in the lineup went 0-for-12 with six strikeouts. Two early runs off of Vol pitcher Griffin Little was all that the Patriots needed to get the 1-0 lead in the series as they shut out the Volunteers on their home turf with a 4-0 victory.

Starkville Academy travels to Columbus Tuesday for game two and a possible game three.
