Starkville High School football

Starkville High School’s Tyrese Hopkins (7) has increased his production since his transfer from Noxubee County.

In high school sports, it’s rare for coaches to have a talent like Tyrese Hopkins fall right into their laps, but that’s what has happened for Chris Jones and his staff at Starkville High School.

Hopkins was a star at Noxubee County and was destined to help lead the Tigers in Class 3A this season on the defensive side of the football and, perhaps, follow in the footsteps of great Noxubee defenders like Deontae Skinner, Dylan Bradley and Jeffery Simmons playing on the next level.

With the coaching change of Tyrone Shorter going to Louisville and the school being taken over by the state for academic concerns, Hopkins’ parents wanted better for him.
