Bob Shoop

Bob Shoop, left, coaches Tennessee defensive back D.J. Henderson during his days in Knoxville. Shoop is now the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State.

Bob Shoop has pretty much been successful wherever he’s been.

Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator is known for his intelligence and figuring out schemes that help his teams limit the yards and points against them.

Shoop has been so good in fact that in six of the last eight seasons, he has coordinated units to top 25 rankings in total defense. The only two seasons Shoop didn’t orchestrate a top defense were in 2016 and 2017. His team at the time? That’d be Tennessee, which is the place MSU plays Saturday at 11 a.m.

Shoop has an interesting history with the Volunteers. Now, he’ll look to put all that aside and lead the Bulldogs to a victory on Rocky Top.
