It wasn’t really an audition per se as much as it was opening day on the big stage for quarterback Tommy Stevens and he came out with the ballad pretty early.
If there were nerves, they weren’t evident in the first few plays for the Penn State graduate transfer. Just a week after being chosen the starting quarterback over Keytaon Thompson, Stevens proved why and how he won that battle. He flicked a 5-yard completion over to Osirus Mitchell in the middle of a couple of first down runs from Kylin Hill. He rushed for a first down to get MSU deep inside Louisiana territory at the 31 and then he hit Mitchell over the top for the wide open touchdown.
From there, it was a business-like approach for Stevens as he was a huge reason why the Bulldogs moved to 1-0 with the 38-28 victory over the Ragin’ Cajuns.
