Starkville Christian School basketball

Starkville Christian School guard Tanner Smith scored 21 points at Tuscaloosa Home School.

Tanner Smith wasn’t satisfied and neither was her coach.

Smith scored 21 points for the Starkville Christian School Lady Cougars Tuesday night in a 57-44 win over the Tuscaloosa Home School Lady Warriors, but it was the points that were left out on the court that were a concern.

“I could have made a lot more layups,” Smith said. “I’m looking to help my team as much as I can.”

Starkville Christian School coach Luke Buckner saw his girls team play well in spurts against Tuscaloosa, but he knows it can be better.

He saw the missed layups by the Lady Cougars that if they fell could have added up to about 30 more points.

“We’re trying to be great and they play a lot of the game great, but sometimes they just play good and if they truly want to be great, it’s got to be great full-time,” Buckner said. “They hustled, played hard, worked together and had an excellent defense so you can’t complain too much.”
