Amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Starkville Academy girls basketball coach Marianne Ward has been working her team to prepare for the season later this year. Players are getting up shots in the gym and they’re preparing to get up even more shots for a worthy cause soon.
Ward and Starkville Academy announced recently plans for a free throw shootout where fans of the Lady Volunteers can sponsor players with a portion of the proceeds going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Ward got the idea from her time as a player at Winston Academy and her assistant, Nora Katherine Smith, also had a similar fundraiser with the Lady Vols during her playing days.
