Starkville Academy football

MERIDIAN – The fight of the Starkville Academy Volunteers was in full display against on Friday night.

After coming back to defeat Magnolia Heights 35-30 in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs, the Vols were locked in a battle with the tough Lamar School Raiders.

Starkville Academy lost a 33-13 decision to Lamar School in the season opener in August, but the Vols were not going to let the game get away from them this time.

With its second straight test on the road, Starkville Academy pulled out a 24-22 victory to advance.

“They just keep fighting,” Vols coach Chase Nicholson said. “That’s all you can say. We’ve got a whole lot of guys that just want to fight. When you do that and they all come together, it’s special. That’s what football is all about.”
