WINONA – The Starkville 8-year-old All-Stars put the statement “defense wins championships” to the test over the past three weeks and proved that it was worth every bit of truth.
Starkville capped an impressive summer run with an 11-4 victory over Greenville Sunday to win the Grand Slam State Championship. That follows the Dizzy Dean State title it won the week before and the South State trophy before that.
“They played hard and they hustled,” Starkville 8-year-old coach Wesley Gordon said. “As always, they played great defense and that’s won the tournament for us.”
