Two classifications will be going to game three at the MHSAA Fast Pitch Softball Championships at Mississippi State's Nusz Park on Monday, while the story ended in a positive way for the Newton County Lady Cougars.
The Lady Cougars scored five runs in the first inning and defeated the Tishomingo County Lady Braves 8-4 to claim the Class 4A State championship.
It was the 10th state title for Newton County and first since 2015.
Philadelphia forced a third game in Class 2A with a 10-0 win in six innings over Enterprise, while DeSoto Central beat Brandon 4-3 as that 6A set goes to a third game.
Action at Nusz Park on Tuesday begins at 1 p.m.
