It’s easy to tell how much last Friday’s win meant to Starkville High School football coach Chris Jones.
The third-year head man at SHS breathes a sigh of relief whenever he’s asked about just how important that win could be. The Yellow Jackets (4-2, 1-0 Class 6A, Region 2) had their backs in a corner as the 5-0 South Panola Tigers came in to town.
There were questions as to if Starkville was going to be contenders this year, but it came out in that game and answered against one of the state’s top teams. The Jackets also clamped down on Mississippi State commit and star running back Janari Dean after the star player had a big first half. It was a big win for Jones, no matter how pretty it looked.
