East Webster football

CALHOUN CITY – Friday night just felt like East Webster’s night for many in Webster county throughout the week.

The Wolverines were out to a 6-0 start and riding high after big wins over the past three weeks and Calhoun City had a mortal feel to it after a 3-3 start. When the four quarters were finished, though, that came crashing down.

Several key mistakes plagued the Wolverines in their first Class 2A, Region 2 game of the season and they tasted defeat for the first time this year in a 28-7 loss. It was a tough night for all parties as East Webster couldn’t find the offense to get them an end to a nine-game losing streak to the Wildcats.

“(Friday) was not our night,” Wolverine head coach Ron Price said. “Any time we got something good going, something bad would happen. It’s really frustrating. These guys have battled all year and fought, but it wasn’t our night.”
