Choctaw County football

Choctaw County head football coach Jeff Roberts talks with his team after a game earlier this season.

In what was set to be a two-day stretch of coverage for football games in the area, Friday night lights have officially packed up and moved a day up to Thursday for almost every team on the slate.

The Starkville Daily News was prepared to head to East Webster and Eupora for action tonight, then Houston on Friday as the Choctaw County Chargers traveled to play the Hilltoppers in a key division game, but most of the schools are now playing on Thursday due to weather concerns.

As of press time, Starkville and Starkville Academy were still set to play on Friday, but they will be on the road.

That puts the spotlight on Webster and Choctaw County for Thursday night and none is brighter than Choctaw County and Houston. The three-game losing streak that stretched from the end of August into September for the Chargers was stopped with victories over Kosciusko, Clarksdale and in the first Class 3A, Region 4 game last week against Aberdeen.
