West Point football coach Chris Chambless hoists the trophy after his team won the MHSAA Class 5A football championship against Laurel in 2016.

It’s been hard for Starkville High School head football coach Chris Jones, and anyone for that matter, to figure out West Point after the first two weeks.

Most people expect the Green Wave to be at its strongest by October and November, but they also don’t know quite what to expect out of them from a wins and losses standpoint right now.

West Point head coach Chris Chambless is a shoo-in for the Mississippi High School Activities Association Hall of Fame at some point and he’s proven that the old-school approach of committing to the run game and hard-nosed defense is still one of the most reliable things in the sport. If anyone has any questions, he’ll show you a hand full of rings, three of which he’s required in the last three years in Class 5A.
