Olive Branch football

It hasn’t been long since Olive Branch touted one of the best programs in the entire state of Mississippi.

They were producing Power 5 conference players, including a handful of Southeastern Conference standouts and they won a state championship in Class 6A with a dominant 2011 under head coach Scott Samsel.

But the program fell on hard times. The Conquistadors won seven games in 2013 in Samsel’s last season and they had four coaches in four years culminating with an 0-11 season in 2016. Head coach Tyler Turner has brought some stability back to Olive Branch, however.

His first two seasons in 2017 and ’18 ended with 12-2 records as the program had gone down to Class 5A and the team was competing for North State championship crowns. Not much has changed this year as the Conquistadors moved back up to 6A as they’re sitting at 9-3, finishing second in Region 1 and coming to Starkville on Friday with a date in the 6A North State title game on the line.
