VICTORIA, British Columbia – No. 10 Mississippi State battled to the wire against the third-ranked team in the country Saturday night, but fell just short to the Stanford Cardinal 67-62 in the championship game of the Greater Victoria Invitational.

It was the first loss of the season for the Bulldogs as they fell to 8-1.

The Cardinal (8-0) took a double-digit lead in the second half, but the Bulldogs stormed all of the way back to cut the margin to 65-62 with 34.7 seconds remaining in the game on a basket by JaMya Mingo-Young. MSU could not get any closer.
