It was a successful non-conference season for the Mississippi State Bulldogs and especially two softball players.
Sophomore Mia Davidson and junior Fa Leilua have crushed the softball in the first 24 games of the season and the Bulldogs hope the pair stays hot into the Southeastern Conference schedule.
Davidson has hit 14 home runs and has driven in 36 runs, which lead the NCAA, while Leilua adds 12 homers.
Leilua is a newcomer to the MSU program and likes being a part of a team that doesn't know the meaning of the word quit.
"Fighting, especially with this team, is special," Leilua said recently. "It is nothing that I have ever experienced with any other team."
The Bulldogs take a 19-5 overall record and seven-game winning streak into this weekend's series at Kentucky.
Alyssa Loza has the best numbers on the MSU pitching staff with a 6-1 record and a 2.10 earned run average in 43.1 innings. Emily Williams has a 5-2 record and has struck out 75 batters this season.
The series between the Bulldogs and Wildcats starts with Friday's 5 p.m.first pitch, while Saturday and Sunday outings begin at 11 a.m.
Kentucky has already won three SEC games and has an overall record of 17-7.
