Two of Mississippi State’s stars are now officially professional baseball players.
Earlier this week, both pitcher Ethan Small and centerfielder Jake Mangum signed with the respective Major League Baseball teams that drafted them a few weeks ago.
Small, who became the 15th MSU player to ever be drafted in the first round when the Milwaukee Brewers selected him with the 28th overall pick, inked with the Brewers on Tuesday. Mangum, a fourth-round choice by the New York Mets, signed on Monday.
After dominating college baseball’s best throughout the 2019 season, Small found out on Wednesday that he had earned the American Baseball Coaches Association’s Division I National Pitcher of the Year award.
