U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship

Mississippi State incoming freshman Ashley Gilliam plays her tee shot at the 13th hole during the second round of stroke play at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point Tuesday.

WEST POINT – Ashley Gilliam has made it to the third round.

The Mississippi State incoming freshman Ashley Gilliam shot a 2-under par 70 on Tuesday to get to even for the tournament and made the cut for match play for the 119th U.S. Women’s Amateur at Old Waverly.

After shooting a 74 in the first round of stroke play, Gilliam took advantage of an earlier tee time on Tuesday and had a much better second round.

“I had more putts drop and put myself in better positions off the tee,” Gilliam said. “Hopefully, I can keep it going into match play.”

Gilliam made two birdies, including one on her final hole of the day, and shot for par on every other hole during the second round to solidify her spot in the top 64. She finished stroke play tied for 21st.
