In the moments after Mississippi State’s 38-28 win over Louisiana on Saturday night, head coach Joe Moorhead had a message for his defense.
Yes, the Bulldogs had won the football game. Yes, State sits at 1-0. However there’s improvement that must come for a unit that has to find its footing after losing three players in the first round of last April’s NFL Draft.
“I told the guys after the game that Jeffery Simmons isn’t coming back, Montez Sweat isn’t coming back and Johnathan Abram isn’t coming back,” Moorhead said. “We’re not that defense. We need to find our own identity. We need to find a way to make plays.”
