U.S. Women's Amateur

Michaela Morard and her caddie were all smiles as she wrapped her first round of stroke play at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point Monday.

WEST POINT – Michaela Morard was in the eighth grade the first time she saw the Old Waverly Golf Course.

The Huntsville, Alabama, native was on a recruiting trip to Mississippi State and got a tour of the course from Bulldog women’s coach Ginger Brown-Lemm. She did not play it that day.

Morard has returned to Old Waverly for the U.S. Women’s Amateur and not only is she playing the course, she is playing well.

After the first round of stroke play on Monday, Morard shot a 5-under 67, which was tied for the lead with Andrea Lee.

Morard birdied her last four holes and said the pressure has been taken off a bit with such a good start.
