Mississippi State baseball

Mississippi State's Jake Mangum was drafted by the New York Mets for the second time.

One of the most beloved players to ever suit up for Mississippi State might soon be slapping the baseball all around the Big Apple.

Mississippi State senior centerfielder Jake Mangum was picked by the New York Mets in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday. Mangum was the draft’s 118th overall selection and his pick carries a slot value of $487,900.

It’s the second time the Mets had drafted Mangum as he was a 32nd round pick of the organization in the 2018 draft. The crosstown New York Yankees took Mangum in the 30th round of the 2017 draft.

MSU pitcher Colby White also heard his name called in the MLB Draft on Tuesday.

The hard-throwing right-hander was chosen in the sixth round with the 188th overall selection by the Tampa Bay Rays. That pick carries a slot value of $255,300.
