Mathiston Mad Dawgs

The members of the Mathiston Mad Dawgs, who won the 10UN Grand Slam State championship on Sunday, are Tucker Lewis, front from left, Miles Stidham, Kross Avent, Kage McHann; and Macon Ballard, middle from left, Jonah Hood, Tripp Boatman, Jace Yates, Kase Brooks, Walker Burdine; and coaches Cliff Ballard, back from left, Jason McHann, Chris Burdine, and Corey Stidham.

A pair of tight 9-7 victories on Sunday was all the Mathiston Mad Dawgs needed to claim a Grand Slam World Series of Baseball 10U-N Division State championship at the Starkville Sportsplex.

After going 1-1 in pool play, the Mad Dawgs defeated the Wildcats 9-7 in the semifinals of the championship bracket, then turned around and claimed a win by the same score over Starkville Swing Elite for the title.

Starkville Swing Elite won the bracket in 11U-N to capture the state title in that division. Swing Elite had one win and two ties in pool play, then defeated Mizuno Golden Spikes 8-5 to begin bracket play on Sunday.
