Starkville High School’s Sakkima Suell (42) looks to get position against Greenville.

It didn’t take long for the Starkville Yellow Jackets to show on Tuesday night that they were going to have the better sting than the Greenville Honeybees.

The Lady Jackets jumped out to a 16-4 lead after one quarter and wet on to a 43-29 victory in the first round of the Class 6A, Region 3 Tournament at The Nest.

With the start of postseason play, SHS girls coach Kristie Williams and her team have adopted a motto of “new season and focus.”

“Those are our two go-to hashtags as we go through this playoff season,” Williams said. “I thought they came out with a lot of energy and the gas pedal was going the whole time. That’s what we keep trying to push and want everything clicking. This is the time of the year where you want everything clicking.”

Things were definitely clicking early for the Lady Jackets as they used a 10-0 run in the first quarter to take a 12-2 on a 3-point field goal by Jada Odneal.
