East Webster baseball coach Wes Johnson, left, loved the relationships he built with his players during his 20-year tenure.

A staple for baseball in Cumberland over the last 40 years is ending his long run this season.

East Webster baseball coach Wes Johnson announced on Saturday that he has finished up his 20-year coaching career for the Wolverines after another playoff trip. Johnson will, however, continue at the school as a teacher for a year or two.

The driving force behind Johnson was family. His son Walker will be starting his second year as a pitcher for East Central Community College, daughter Jordan will be cheering at Northwest Community College next year and another daughter, Jaden, is finishing up high school this year. The coach felt it was time to devote most of his time to the family.
