Starkville High School wide receiver Josh Aka (13) celebrates a touchdown with teammates during Friday night’s game against Clinton.

There was a glimmer of hope for the Clinton Arrows early in the first quarter.

The visitors had aspirations of handing the Starkville Yellow Jackets its only Class 6A, Region 2 loss of the season and ending their year on a winning note.

The Arrows had two opportunities to take an early advantage in the game as they had the ball inside SHS’ 30 on a fumble recovery and a defensive three-and-out.

The Jackets responded with stops and forced missed field goals and that hope soon vanished. SHS responded offensively and defensively the rest of the way to take home a 26-7 victory to finish the regular season 10-2 and a perfect 6-0 in Region 2 play.
