One word describes Starkville’s 12U All-Star recreation league this summer.
That word is dominant.
A bump in the road in the Dizzy Dean State championship semifinals notwithstanding, the team was an unstoppable force along the way. That especially included the last three days on its home turf in the Grand Slam Tournament. Starkville ran through two pool play games and two bracket games by outscoring its opponents 61-7 and it didn’t even make it to the fourth inning in any of those games as it run-ruled each opponent.
It’s why the storms coming through on Sunday afternoon that cancelled the championship game didn’t leave a bad taste in Starkville’s mouths. It was awarded the trophy as the tournament’s winners and didn’t have to play that final game.
