COLLEGE STATION, Tex. – Ethan Small pitched seven no-hit innings and the Mississippi State Bulldogs defeated the Texas A&M Aggies 4-0 Friday to open a weather-pleagued Southeastern Conference baseball series.
Small faced 23 batters in his seven hitless innings. He struck out eight, got nine flyball outs and coaxed four ground-ball outs.
“I thought he was better than normal today,” MSU head baseball coach Chris Lemonis said about Small. “I thought his velocity was better and he had great command early on. He worked both sides of the plate and just dominated.”
Because of rain, the Bulldogs (37-9, 14-8) and Aggies (31-16-1, 11-10-1) have only been able to get in one game so far.
Per SEC rules, the series can not be pushed into a fourth day, so MSU and Texas A&M have to play two seven-inning games today starting at noon.
