Starkville Police are investigating a Sunday morning shooting in the vicinity of Cookout on Highway 12 that left one male victim injured.
The SPD said in a press release that officers responded Sunday morning at 2:43 a.m. to a shots fired call in the area of the restaurant and while on scene, found that an individual had been injured.
Investigators believe an altercation began at an unnamed local venue before escalating close to Cookout.
The male victim was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds to his extremities and was later transferred out of the area for further treatment.
He is reported to be in stable condition.
The area around the restaurant was clear on Sunday morning after the scene had been processed.
The SPD says the shooting remains under active investigation. No arrests or suspects have been announced at this time.
The shooting is the second in three days investigated by the SPD.
SPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Brandon Lovelady said Friday’s shooting, which has already seen an arrest made, was domestic in nature and in no way connected to the Sunday morning shooting.
Those with information are asked to contact the Starkville Police Department at 662-323-4131, Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151, or through the SPD's anonymous tip system.
