It’s time for back-to-school shopping with Mississippi’s annual tax-free weekend starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Established by the legislature in 2019, the annual sale tax holiday is an opportunity for parents to stock up on needed school clothes, shoes and more.
As in previous years, no sales tax will be collected on clothing, footwear or school supplies as long as the price of a single item is less than $100. For example, a customer buying two pairs of pants at $50 each and a pair of shoes at $110 would only pay sales tax on the shoes since they are more than $100.
Some additional restrictions also apply to the sales tax holiday.
