From Columbia University in New York City to the swamps of Parris Island, South Carolina, Starkville High School’s Class of 2019 is ready to make its mark on the world.
For the second year, members of the class participated in an academic signing day, signing letters showing their intent to attend college or join a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. In total, this year’s class will attend 40 different colleges and universities and serve in four military branches. In total, 162 seniors participated in the voluntary event held in Yellow Jacket Stadium. Family and friends were on hand to watch the students sign their future intentions. Starkville Fire Chief Charles Yarbrough also addressed the seniors.
The SHS Class of 2019 will be honored at other events throughout the week, including an award and scholarship ceremony Wednesday night at SHS. The class will graduate at the Humphrey Coliseum on the evening of May 24.
