Destiny Carter (in white) and Jaquez Harris (in yellow) were crowned queen and king, respectively, of the 2021 SHS Homecoming in a special ceremony on Friday.

The threat of rain has been looming over Starkville and Oktibbeha County throughout the week, so many questioned what the plans were for the Starkville High School homecoming ceremony if the game was rained out or delayed. On Friday morning, administrators and Starkville Oktibbeha School District officials announced they would have the ceremony at 5 p.m. inside the Greensboro Center.

As the courts from freshmen to seniors shuffled in the back of the auditorium to prepare to walk on stage, the audience filled with friends and family to cheer on the bedazzled and snazzy young Yellow Jackets.

The ceremony began a little after 5 p.m. as plenty were still filing in, but once everyone settled in, there was standing room only.
