The Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District (SOCSD) Board met on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. for their first meeting since school started back last Thursday, August 5. While the meeting was more brief than usual, COVID-19 case numbers within the school were the hottest topic of the night.
Case numbers are reported at the end of every week on Friday, and by Monday of the next week, the numbers are tallied and sent to the proper SOCSD designee. At the meeting, Nicole Thomas, SOCSD’s Public Information Officer, shared those numbers.
“We had 49 positive student cases on Thursday and Friday,” Thomas reported. “That is district-wide. In comparison, the highest student total for positive cases in the entire school year last year was 17. Some of the children did not come to school those days, but this is what was reported to us.”
