Beginning Tuesday, July 13, a part of Old West Point Road will be closed indefinitely as the city begins to remove and replace the bridge that is at the intersection of Old West Point Road and Garrard Road.
During the rain in June, the bridge became unstable. It was temporarily repaired and the city swiftly sought funding to fix this issue. According to the city, “This bridge replacement project is funded through the Emergency Road and Bridge Repair Fund which was enacted through a special session of the Mississippi Legislature. This project will provide a safer intersection at Garrard Road, improve drainage efficiency of the creek as well as provide adequate stabilization of the channel slopes.”
