The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office is warning those in the community to be on the lookout for scam callers impersonating local law enforcement officials.

OCSO Captain of Operations Brett Watson said their office has received numerous reports of callers impersonating Chief Deputy Chadd Garnett.

The sheriff’s office reports that callers are telling residents they have to go to a local store and make a payment for missing jury duty, which is a scam.

Deputies say if you receive one of these calls, do not give out any information and report it as soon as possible.

“We will contact you if you have a warrant, but we will never ask you for money over the phone,” Watson said.

The scam has surfaced around the area, with similar incidents recently reported in Clay County.
