On Monday, 47-year-old Marion Watson was sentenced to five years probation on the charge of conspiracy to defraud the state in Mississippi District 16 Circuit Court in Starkville. She will also pay $5,000 in restitution to the city of Starkville and $500 in court costs.
Along with four other former Starkville Parks and Recreation Department employees and subcontractors, Watson would take credit for hours she did not work. In total, she embezzled $2,420 from the city.The group embezzled $21,702.50 between the dates of Jan. 1, 2015 and Nov.30, 2017. She turned herself in on Jan. 18, 2018.
Former parks and recreation director Herman Peters was sentenced last week, and former employees Schronda Eddins, Anthony Stevenson and Dianne Evans were sentenced in this year's first circuit court term.
