A man was severely injured just over the Oktibbeha County line in Choctaw County Thursday when a tire he was working on exploded.
OCH Director of Emergency Services Michael Hunt declined to identify the injured man, but said he was airlifted directly from the scene to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Hunt said the man is in serious condition.
Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said no fire companies responded to the call other than an ambulance from OCH Regional Medical Center.
Rosenhan confirmed the incident was the result of the tire not being held in a truck inflation cage, which resulted in the hub ring injuring the man working on the tire.
Hunt said the incident occurred in Choctaw County on County Line Road near Sansing Meat Service.
No other injuries were reported from the incident.
