Convenience store chain Fred's, Inc. revealed on Thursday that several of its stores across Mississippi will close, including its location on E. Main Street in West Point.
The Memphis-based company provided a list of the 159 stores slated to close by the end of May, including 31 in Mississippi.
Not included on the list was the Starkville Fred's location on S Jackson Street.
The company said that liquidation sales at the closing stores would begin today and said its decision to close under-performing stores follows an “evaluation of the company's store portfolio, including historical and recent store performance and the timing of lease expirations, among other factors.”
Fred’s also said, at this time, it did not plan to close its other 398 stores
Area locations slated to close include:
- West Point - 26591 E Main Street
- Columbus - 304 5th St. S
- Columbus - 201 G Alabama St.
- Aberdeen - 107 N Meridian St.
