Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt confirmed to the Starkville Daily News Tuesday afternoon that a second person has died following a trench collapse at a Starkville construction site.
Starkville Fire Chief Charles Yarbrough confirmed one person was killed when the trench collapsed some time around 10 a.m., but another person, a 19-year-old male, was rescued from the trench after a two and a half hour effort by the Starkville Fire Department and other area agencies.

The rescued man was taken by AirCare helicopter from the scene to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. However, Hunt confirmed the man died from his injuries after being transported.
The identities of the two workers killed have not been released at this time, but Yarbrough told the Starkville Daily News the company involved is Tuscaloosa, Alabama-based Southern Civil Contracting, Inc.
