SHS teams open division tournament with wins

The Starkville High School basketball teams continued their hot streaks right into postseason tournament play.

After the Lady Jackets defeated Madison Central 47-23 to open the Class 6A, Region 3 Tournament Tuesday, the SHS boys also won handily over the Jaguars 72-50.

The Jackets improved their record to 22-3 with their 18th-straight victory. They also completed a season sweep of Madison Central.

Blake Rogers led SHS with 20 points and Tyler Talley chipped in nine points.

The Jackets now play in the championship game on Friday at 8:30 p.m.

In the girls game, Jariyah Covington scored 20 points for Starkville, while Jalisa Outlaw added nine points.

It was also the third time the Lady Jackets were able to defeat the Lady Jaguars this season. SHS has won six games in a row and improved to 23-2.

The Lady Jackets will be in the girls title outing on Friday at 7 p.m.
