SHS softball picks up run-rule victory

It was quick work for the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets in softball Monday night.
Starkville found that scoring runs came easy against the Noxubee County Tigers, but didn't really need much thanks to the solid pitching of forts of Anna Ray Taylor.
Taylor tossed a three-inning no-hitter and the Lady Jackets produced on offense for a 20-0 victory at home.
Starkville quickly took control of the game as the Lady Jackets began to assert their will on the visiting Tigers. Despite an early outfield error, Taylor helped the Jackets recover by getting the game’s first strikeout, and personally throwing out the next two runners at the plate.
Batting top of the order, Charlie Clanton got off to a strong start by hitting a single down the middle of the field. After safely getting on base, Clanton then proceeded to steal both second and third, before scoring off of a wild pitch.
Shortly after Clanton scored, Tangela Doss found herself on first as well, and she too managed to steal her way around the diamond before scoring. Next up at the plate was Alexis Poe, who not to be outdone by her teammates as she also circled the bases for an inside the park home run.
The Lady Jackets were able to continue their run throughout the inning, as nearly the entire batting order found themselves at the plate twice before ending the inning with already a comfortable 15-0 advantage.
Taylor continued to keep up the pressure on defense as she proceeded to strike out three out of the next four batters she faced in the second inning, and although they were unable to score as many runs as they had in the first inning, the Lady Jackets were still able to increase their lead by five headed into the top of the third inning.
Determined to finish the fixture off, Taylor continued her strong form from the second inning, and struck out the next three batters she faced, ending the game in only two and a half innings with her no-hitter intact.
Despite only two offensive innings, seven Starkville players were able to add hits, including the afore mentioned Clanton, K. Williams, J. Armstead, B. Fisher, A. Brooks, K. Brooks, and D. Norris.
