Kick-off for Maroon Edition Habitat House set for Tuesday

The ground-breaking ceremony for the 2010 Maroon Edition Habitat House will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The ceremony and first day of work will be held at the job site at 265 Greenwood Drive, in Sunset Subdivision. Building is scheduled for August 12-14,16-17.
This project is in conjunction with MSU's second-year reading experience of "Three Cups of Tea." The Maroon Volunteer Center has partnered with the Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity to build and paint the second Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity house.
The house is to be built at 265 Greenwood Street in Starkville, next door to the first Maroon Edition Habitat House. This will be the new home of the Katie Marie Gray family.
All interested volunteers can sign up at MSU freshmen participating in Service DAWGS Day will contribute their efforts on August 17, and upperclassmen, along with the rest of the MSU family, will continue to support the efforts until the house is completed.

The reading experience will also work in conjunction with Starkville Reads Fall programming, beginning August 30.
• At 7 p.m. August 30, Shaz Akram talks about the culture, history, and geography of Pakistan and Afghanistan at Starkville Public Library.
• The SDN Book Club will discuss Three Cups of Tea at noon September 1. Read the book and be prepared to discuss.
• Dr. Michael Kardos discusses Three Cups of Tea on September 14 at 7 p.m. at the Starkville Public Library.
• And on Thursday, September 23, author Greg Mortenson of Three Cups of Tea will speak in Starkville at Humphrey Coliseum on the MSU campus.
