Highway 25 wreck

Emergency crews block onlookers' view as the wreck was processed.

An Ackerman man was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday night on the Highway 25 bypass.

Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt confirmed to the Starkville Daily News that 81-year-old Roger Hayes of Hayes Road in Ackerman was killed instantly in the wreck and pronounced dead at the scene around 9:30 p.m.

Hunt said Hayes was in the northbound lane going south with no lights on before colliding head-on with another vehicle. He also believes that Hayes was not wearing a seat belt.

“There were two people in the other vehicle, one was transported to OCH then transferred to [North Mississippi Medical Center] in Tupelo in serious but stable condition,” he said. “The other person had non life-threatening injuries.”

The Oktibbeha County Coroner’s Office and the Starkville Police Department are handling the investigation.
