FLOWOOD – The East Webster High School boys bowling team did exactly what head coach Christian Jones wanted on Friday afternoon.
Jones knew if the Wolverines could be one of two teams standing at the Class 1 State Bowling Championship that they would have a chance to do something really special.
That's exactly what happened.
East Webster rallied from down two games against Kossuth in the finals to win the state championship at Fannin Lanes.
The Wolverines got down, then Jones gave what he called "a pep talk" to settle them down and get them back on track.
East Webster swept the last three games to claim the title.
"I am super proud of these boys," Jones said. "Our boys did a good job of pulling this thing out and we have two seniors on the team and they did it for them."
The members of the Wolverines are Austin Raybourne, Joel Naron, Brett Brock, Jacob Frost, Austin Cunningham, Scott Winfield, Dustin Emfinger, Drew Wofford and Cruz Winfield.
The East Webster girls team also made the state championships, but did not advance to the finals.
