Mississippi State basketball received good news on Wednesday afternoon when it was learned that freshman forward Rodney Hood didn’t tear ligaments in his left knee during the showdown with Kentucky on Tuesday evening.
Hood went down late in the first half due to incidental contact with a Kentucky player and didn’t return the remainder of the game.
“Rodney Hood suffered a deep bone bruise on left knee. No torn ligaments or fractures to be concerned about,” said an MSU spokesman. “At this time, his return is unknown.”
Hood left the game having scored six points for the Bulldogs off 2-for-6 shooting in the first half.
“It was a huge blow for us," MSU head coach Rick Stansbury said. "They weren’t going to cancel the game, but when we lose one of our key guys, Rodney Hood, with our lack of depth it is huge for us, absolutely huge."
The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the Crimson Tide with a 5 p.m. scheduled tip.
