COLUMBUS – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers went across the river to Columbus for the third time this season and once again brought back a victory.
Starkville Academy defeated the Heritage Academy Lady Patriots 55-35.
The South AAA champion Lady Vols improved their record to 29-4 overall and 11-1 in the conference.
"It was a good game to work out some of the kinks before playing Jackson Academy for their senior night Friday," SA girls coach Glenn Schmidt said. "Everyone got into the action so it was a good team effort."
The Lady Vols jumped out to a 15-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. They held a 28-12 advantage at halftime.
Starkville Academy shot 47 percent from the field (25 of 53) and out-rebounded Heritage 26-21.
Nora Kathryn Carroll led the Lady Vols with 14 points, while Sallie Kate Richardson also scored in double figures with 10. Julianne Jackson was next in the scoring column with seven points.
Richardson had six rebounds for SA.

COLUMBUS – The Vols fell behind 12-2 after the first quarter, but despite making another second-half rally, fell short against the Patriots.
Starkville Academy was able to out-rebound Heritage 17-15, but could only hit 36 percent of shots from the field (14 of 39).
Zach Gerhart was the only Vols to score in double figures with 13 points. Austin Kinard had eight points for SA.
