HATTIESBURG – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers held a 15-9 lead after the first quarter Saturday night and went on to a 56-38 win on the road at Presbyterian Christian.
Despite being out-rebounded (24-16) and out-shot (44 percent to 43 percent) in the game, the Lady Vols improved their record to 27-3 overall. The SA defense caused 20 Presbyterian Christian turnovers.
The home team got within 23-20 at halftime, but the Lady Vols out-scored their host 33-18 in the second half.
Sallie Kate Richardson led SA with 17 points, while April Burney also scored in double digits with 11 points.
The Lady Vols try to cap an undefeated season at home Tuesday night when they host Heritage Academy.

HATTIESBURG – In what has become a trend as of late, the Volunteers dropped another close outing.
The game was tied 13-13 after the first quarter, then PCS took a 21-18 lead at halftime.
After the home team stretched the margin out to 35-23 by out-scoring SA 14-5 in the third quarter, the Vols closed the gap by winning the fourth quarter 10-4.
Presbyterian Christian shot 48 percent from the field (14-of-29), while SA made 33 percent (9-of-27). The Vols did well from 3-point range, hitting 5-of-11 shots for 46 percent, which was better than PCS' 3-of-8 from long range for 38 percent.
Austin Kinard led SA with eight points.
