PELAHATCHIE – The Starkville Academy girls' basketball team won its 10th game in a row Tuesday night.
This time they defeated East Rankin Academy 66-45.
The Lady Volunteers let the Lady Patriots hang around in the first quarter. SA entered the second period with a 17-12 lead.
The Lady Vols stretched their lead to 17 by halftime at 35-18. Coach Glenn Schmidt's squad outscored the Lady Patriots 18-6 in the second quarter.
The third quarter saw a lot of offense by both teams. There were a total of 60 points scored in the third quarter. SA outscored East Rankin 27-23.
The fourth quarter was more of a defensive struggle as each team managed to score only four points each.
The Lady Volunteers had a 2-1 ratio of assists to turnovers. They dished out 16 assists and turned the ball over only eight times.
SA shot 47 percent from the field going 29-of-61. The Lady Patriots shot only 35 percent from the field going 17-of-49.
Anna Lea Little led SA with 18 points. Sallie Kate Richardson chipped in 16 points and Norah Kathryn Carroll added 12 points. The Lady Vols are now 25-3 for the year.

PELAHATCHIE – The Volunteers only managed to score in double digits in one quarter against the Patriots.
That was the fourth quarter and it may have been a little to late.
East Rankin took 12-7 lead into the second quarter. They stretched that lead out to nine at 22-13 at halftime.
East Rankin was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line, while SA was 7-of-16 (43.8 percent).
The Patriots took advantage of the area under the goal. The doubled up the Volunteers on points in the paint at 28-14.
Carnail Minor was the only Volunteer to score in double digits with 16 points.
