Mississippi State junior wide receiver Chad Bumphis was arrested in Tupelo in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The Tupelo native was booked on charges of public drunk and disorderly conduct within the city limits of Tupelo 1:31 a.m. after the closing of the Atlanta Club. His court date has been set for Jan. 12.
“We will handle this the way we would any other incident, especially a situation where there are differing accounts,” said an MSU team spokesman. “The team is expected back next Sunday, classes begin Monday, and we will continue to assess the situation."
Bumphis completed his junior campaign with the Bulldogs on Friday evening where he caught one pass for negative 3 yards and two rushes for a loss 4 yards. For the season, he had 25 receptions for 339 yards and three scores.
The best year for Bumphis at MSU came in 2010 when he caught 44 passes for 634 yards and five touchdowns. In 2009, he had 32 receptions for 375 yards and four scores.
Bumphis has 1,348 yards receiving for his career.
